SUNDAY
CLUBSunday
Club meets in the parish rooms (adjoining the church) at 10.25 am and lasts for
about forty minutes, the children then join the congregation in church. All children are very welcome to join the Sunday
Club; under school age children need to be accompanied by an adult. The teachers use a varied programme of work
and it is tailored to suit all ages.
Many
of the children also belong to the junior choir, help as servers, and read
lessons in church. All are encouraged to
join in.
Please
contact Mrs Goodrich or the parish office if you would like more information.
All
Saints Church built by Dame Rhoda Elton and Sir Arthur Hallam Elton, who
endowed it, was consecrated on 1st November 1860. The architect, CE Giles of Taunton, designed
a simple cruciform structure with chancel, nave, north and south transepts, and
a tower and spire over the crossing.
Superbly sited at the foot of Court Hill in a secluded and tranquil
valley, the church clock a landmark, and the peal of its bells a familiar sound
throughout the parish. The church is
simple in ground plan but astonishingly rich in imagery. There are examples of the work of James
Powell, William Wailes, John Hardman, Clayton and Bell, Heaton Butler and
Bayne, Hardman, Sir Edmund Elton, Sir John Ninian Comper. (If you would like more information on the
history and works of the church please contact the Parish Office)
