BELL RINGING IN THE BENEFICE

 

We are very fortunate to have four towers in the Benefice with ringable bells: All Saints’, St. Mary’s (Walton), St. Michael’s (Clapton in Gordano) and St. Peter and St. Paul’s (Weston in Gordano). 

 

All Saints:  has a ring of five bells with an 11 cwt tenor.  Practices are held on Monday evenings from 7.00 p.m. and Sunday ringing is from 10.00 a.m.  The Tower contact is: J.W. Hulse, 18 Bennetts Way, Clevedon, Somerset, BS21 6AJ. Tel/fax: 01275 878448.

 

St. Mary’s (Walton): has a ring of six bells which were newly installed in 1997, with a 7 cwt tenor.  Practices are held on Tuesday evenings from 7.30 p.m., and Sunday ringing is from 8.50 a.m. (9.20 a.m. second Sunday of month).  The Tower contact is Mary Pope, 14 Robin Lane, Clevedon, Somerset, BS21 7EX. St. Michael’s (Clapton in Gordano): has a ring of 6 bells with an 8 cwt tenor.  The church is a Grade I listed building and is now cared for by The Churches Conservation Trust.  Contact for bell ringing is Mrs. Janet Wyatt, 48 Mead Road, Portishead, Bristol BS20 6RZ. Tel. 01275 843770.

 

St. Peter and St. Paul’s (Weston in Gordano): has a ring of 6 bells with an 8 cwt tenor.  There is no local band of ringers, but the St. Mary’s band ring for Sunday services.  Sunday ringing is from 5.45 p.m. on 1st, 2nd and 4th Sundays, and from 10.15 a.m. on 3rd Sundays in month (please ring for confirmation).  Contact is Mr. D.
